To me, even if a company didn't pay attention to the alert, it would not stand up in court!!

So, you can have a EFA, if you choose to help avoid problems, but I highly doubt it is a legal event that could make the credit company liable or the company that ignored it liable.

but it probably makes people feel better or sleep better. to feel that they have done something proactive..hmmm
Again, you go on without knowing the facts. When you have a fraud alert on your credit, anyone checking it in order to extend credit will hit a roadblock. (It shouldn't be a problem for employment related verifications) The reporting agency won't even give out information without first contacting the person whose credit report is being accessed to verify that they have authorized "XYZ company" to check their credit for the purposes of obtaining a loan. They use a series of personal questions and a password to verify that the person they are speaking with is indeed the person whose credit is being accessed.

Additionally, the creditor must take extra steps to positively verify the identity of the applicant. If they fail to take the extra precautions, you most definitely have grounds for a civil cause of action against the creditor for damages.

How do I know this? Because I had an extended fraud alert on my credit after my identity was stolenjust over seven years ago. And BTW--it turns out that it had nothing to do with using my credit, it was a scheme to get prescription narcotics with forged prescriptions using my health insurance card. That is a rapidly growing cause of identity theft.

One other thing to note, over 50% of the time the person who steals your identity will turn out to be someone you know. A relative, friend, employee, co-worker, or other person known to you who is trusted and has access to your information.

Why do'nt you and your buddy TVSG go play together. It's amazing how juvenile some people become when they are wrong and don't have a valid reponse. Next you'll just be repeating everything I wrote.

And some people wonder why they can't find a job...
