Don't send it as a .wps file! Those of us in the business world don't use Works on our computer and don't want to take the time to download and install the reader. if you don't have Word to send a .doc file, save and send it as a .txt file.

I just posted an ad late this afternoon and so far two of the four resumes that have come in have been .wps. Very frustrating!

I thought most companies preferred pdf file? I think that it's what it's called

PDF is fine, but not required.

I used to get people who copy/paste their resumes in the body of the email too. Please don't do this neither.

Word document is the best format, but .pdf is fine (although most people probably do not have PDF writer). People will use .pdf if they are worried about formatting as this can be a problem sometimes if a different version of Office is used.

Also, I am not 100% sure, but I think you can also use Google Docs if you don't have Microsoft Word. I believe Google Docs saves the file in a compatible format with Word.

.doc or .pdf are the most "universal" so I would advise to stick with those. PDFs look a little nicer and you can add images or background (if you are a designer) and you also shouldn't have to worry about compatibility issues (if you use Word 2008 and hiring manager is using 2003 there could be issues).

Honestly though either would work. STICK TO THOSE TWO!

I agree with tluv, if you have Office 2007 save your resume as a .doc, not the new .docx format. Better to be safe than sorry.
