How do you know that you pretty much have the job? I just went recently to my third interview, spoke with both of the men that I would be supporting. Felt very comfortable and we were even talking about one of the guys' kids growing up so fast. The main guy I would be supporting said I stood out because I have worked in the lab. He also liked the fact that I have a quick turnaround (meaning I don't have to give notice to anyone). He said it would be two weeks for a decision. I did send thank you notes and placed a call Friday to the HR (they told me to check in with HR) and left a message. Any insight? Thanks! Pyxie

You were told two weeks after a 3rd interview? That sounds kind of odd since you are so deep in the interviewing process. But hearing two weeks doesn't sound like a good sign. Now I have been called back in two weeks but wasn't told it would be two weeks. Hope it works out
Thanks for the input. The reason for two weeks I'm thinking is partly because the main guy is out of town (he left the day after I interviewed). In Canada. So I don't know. Like I said, I left a message for HR like they told me, so we'll see. I would think they would let me know either way. As for money, they liked that I was in their pay range so maybe that's a plus too. Man I hate this waiting! I just hope it's good news at the end. Pyxie

Two weeks was not at all unusual where I worked. After I interviewed and selected the candidate I wanted to hire, the personnel office had to do it's thing... they ran criminal background checks, made sure there were no outstanding tax liabilities (this was a gov't. agency), etc. And that office was shorthanded and usually behind on everything, so it didn't happen overnight.
I'd tell the applicant two weeks and hope it would be quicker. I couldn't tell them outright they were my choice, because it could have turned out they had just been released from prison on tax evasion charges. There couldn't be any misunderstanding about whether they had actually received a firm offer.
Wow! Well...my background isn't exciting so they shouldn't have a problem there! It's just the waiting part is kind of unsettling but there is nothing I can do. At least it's good to know that they do background checks. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed! Thanks again! Pyxie
My brother said to check with them again tomorrow (Wednesday) but I don't want to be a pest either. Would Friday be better? I called last Friday to HR and left a message. As Tom Petty would say 'the waiting is the hardest part'. Very very true.
