I went to the Best Buy Career Center website to apply for just a cashier/retail job and because I'm currently down here in New Orleans, I check the New Orleans metro area (under all job categories, just for laughs)- no listings. Then I tried the whole state of Louisiana- still no listings. Then I said screw it, selected the whole US, and the only job listings that were up management and marketing positions in a random state here and there. I find this hard to believe, not only is Best Buy usually hiring and cycling employees at a decent rate, but the holiday's are coming up. I figure they would need the extra employees for this time of year, but there are no jobs non-management, entry-type level jobs at all. Can this be true? Is there some sort of error with the website? Damn, this is why I hate being forced to apply online. There's gotta be some sort of error. Can anyone help vouch for me? Is the economy really this screwed that stores like Best Buy aren't hiring at all?

It's quite possible that they aren't hiring, and they aren't hiring extra holiday staff and are instead giving additional hours to their existing employees. Sorry I can't help further.

Have you looked into being a drivers assistant for UPS?

I don't think there will be as many seasonal jobs this year as opposed to previous years. Everytime I go into a Best Buy they seem to have too much staff anyway.

That is so true!

I don't know what website you went to though, because just quickly logging onto the bestbuy-jobs website I found over 1000 jobs in each of the cashier, merchandising, and sales job categories--and they have each of these in new orleans.

Perhaps you somehow found yourself on the wrong website?

It is possible that they only advertise senior jobs on their website, relying on walk-in applications for seasonal and part time staff. I have seen a number of companies do this.

The reason is that the local store manager is responsible for hiring store staff, who will have lower skill levels. The central HR or regional managers are responsible for hiring store managers and the like, and may pay for relocation, etc, which is why these jobs are advertised on national websites.

Best Buy here in Charlotte, NC was on TV saying they are taking apps for seasonal work, and are getting a HUGE amount of apps compared to last year, from all walks of life. 2nd jobbers, laid off former execs, high school and college grads, etc.

I applied to them last in 2007 in Southern California. I remember getting emails back saying that I did not have the qualifications they were looking for and they decided to go with other candidates.
