G'mar Tov! For those of you who are not of the Jewish faith, today is Yom Kippur. It is 10 days after Rosh Hashanah and from my understanding it is a time for atonement of sins, making things right with people you've offended, and making promises to God to do better. I know that is not the exact theological way to say it.
Thanks Hoosier, and ditto to the other Jewish posters! I'm skipping Kol Nidre tonight, which I might regret, but will attend services tomorrow... I don't fast, though, since I'm a diabetic (G-d excuses us for medical reasons ).
Thanks Dragon. I did notice that "have an easy fast" in your post..I wondered if that was what I should say, but also just wondered if you were referring to hunger? Oh my , I am making a fool of myself here..So I will just say "Hugs to all ny Jewish cd family"
No worries about the terminology, it's the thought that counts! We say "have an easy fast" because fasting from sundown-sundown is a big part of Yom Kippur... partly to cleanse yourself & also to remember the suffering of the Jewish people (if memory serves). You can also say "L'Shana Tovah", even though the new year has already started, or simply "Yom Tov", which loosely means have a good day. Anyway, I did have a pleasant Rosh Hashana & Yom Kippur, so thanks for the good wishes... and as we speak (figuratively), God is giving me the greatest new year's gift ever - a baby niece!
