My niece is having her official naming ceremony this weekend, and I thought I'd post a little about the tradition... everyone probably knows about Baptisms, Christenings, even the Bris (circumcision ceremony) - but few know about the naming ceremony for Jewish babies. Here's an article about it: Jewish Birth and Naming Ceremonies - ReligionFacts
If anyone has questions, I'll try my best to answer... oh, and while the article states it's on their first Shabbat, they're doing it after a month to accommodate the out-of-town relatives. Also, her husband is not Jewish, but they've decided to raise her in the Jewish faith (with Christmas, though - LOL).

"when the eighth day came and the child was to be circumcised, they gave him the name Jesus, the name the angel had given him before his conception" Luke 2:21
Interesting, and thanks for that. Confirms at least, that Mary and Joseph were observant.
1) where is the picture of your little angel? I haven't seen one yet. (impatiently tapping cast boot on floor)
2) Do you know the name they chose?
1) I'll send you a few via DM - same goes for anyone else (regulars) who want to see her! She's absolutely precious, and perfect in every way... getting big too.
2) Yes, they have chosen the Hebrew name Shoshana (Rose), last I heard... it's after my 90 year-old grandmother, who's still alive but gave her blessing to use it.

Actually it means lily. It comes from the hebrew shesh. People mistakenly associate it with rose because it's normally thought of to be a red flower. You can reference the Zohar for evidence. I can look up the exact location if need be.
