This thread is an example of how non Jews are unable to see Judaism as anything other than Chrstianity without Yushke.

MOD CUT

Human psychology causes people to compare the unknown to things they are familiar with. It's called a heuristic. FYI, you're also showing cognitive bias with your post.

While I agree with you, I think Jews should work to clear up this misconception.

Why is it important to clear up this misconception?

This is a complex question being answered by a evangelical ( former Catholic 28 years) with gentile messianic fellowship link or history. To cut to the chase there theorectically is no mimmic of a leader like a Catholic Pope within the Jewish religion with the exception of the God of Abraham. Jews for the most part are secular, moderate or orthodox in addition to rabbinicals (teachers but not singularily a leader of Judaism.) Messianics believe in Yesuha (Jesus Christ) as messiah and believe that both the OT and NT are the inspired word of God and thereby like fellow christians have no Pope. To the best of my knowledge Catholcism is the only religion with a Pope as leader with infallible decision power past down from Peter the apostle.

And that's not very close. Not all Israelis follow the Chief Rabbinate...much less the Jews in Diaspora.

The UK has a "Chief Rabbi". Not sure what authority he has, but the title sounds pretty cool.

In some ways, Hasidic rebbes are like popes. Yeshivish (non-Hasidic ultra-Orthodox) may greatly revere the gedolim (rabbis considered "Torah giants") and even have pictures of them, but they don't have a single authority person that unites them all.
