....Joan Rivers who passed recently has been cremated~!

Joan Rivers' body cremated in North Bergen, reports say | NJ.com

I didn't think the Jewish faith believes in this~? I have a friend whose family is in the funeral biz and she told me a lot of people are doing this lately because of their situations.

The Jewish faith doesn't believe in cremation. But many non-practicing Jews in the USA do get cremated.

Finally a response

I know the Jewish faith does not believe in cremation, but Joan is Jewish and that is what happened. Apparently, she wasn't much into her faith. I think it is so awful

I'm not speaking for Joan, as she was very wealthy, but burials are extremely expensive in some areas of the United States. A recent Jewish funeral I went to cost upwards of $14,500.

Some Jewish people don't let Talmud Torah guide their decision making.

Really a Jewish person should not be cremated due to what happened in WWII~!

You need to keep in mind that, especially in the US, there are people who are Jewish by birth and there is where it stops. They go through the motions of a few holidays and that's about it .The Halachah is based on a short few words from the Torah in Deuteronomy 21:23.

Quote:
his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt surely bury him the same day; for he that is hanged is a reproach unto God; that thou defile not thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.
Deuteronomy 21 / Hebrew - English Bible / Mechon-Mamre

Here's the Chabad link that basically explains it pretty well:

That is irrational. Think of how many taboos there would be in the world if things were permanently associated with terrible events.
