Look! Unembalmed bodies, wrapped in a sheet or a shroud, placed directly into the grave without a coffin, within 24-36 hours after death.
Free if you dig the grave yourselves and fill it yourselves. $250 to the contractor to dig it for you, and finish putting the earth back for you.
I wish that we could get this everywhere in the US. Why shouldn't the Jewish communities do the same thing? Buy undeveloped land in nearby rural areas, and offer it for burial at little to no cost. It is the most halachically kosher burial, to do it this way.

American Jews use coffins, although the coffins have to be simple, made of wood, and I believe they may have holes drilled in the bottom in order to hasten the body's return to the earth.
I personally like the idea of "green" cemeteries. Thanks for that link!
What about tombs? How are they buried inside? I'm just thinking about Joseph's and Rachel's tombs and the cave of Machpelah.
They had a Muslim cemetery where we used to live. It was just a big field. I didn't see any gravestones or anything.
We did see a bunch of people standing in the back one time.
I heard that their burials are similar.
So, was that why we never saw stones, because they were just buried in the ground?
Is that what you guys are talking about by just being put in the ground, without grave stones?
We were wondering why it just looked like a big empty field.

I've sent a DM to Khalif from the Islam forum, asking whether he might like to come over and answer your question about Muslim burials. He's a nice guy, and a good "go-to" person for questions like these.
The only way to quickly return what's borrowed from the nature, in form of human body composition, is to burn it. But we already had this discussed here, apparently, a no go with Judaic community.

Thanks Rachel, I didn't think to google it because I wouldn't know what to type in the search engine, but I found it finally.
This is a link that shows what it looks like from the road.
The article says they're buried out of view from the road, so it explains that part.
This way if Khaliff gets a chance to visit the site, he'll know what I'm talking about

We're in no rush. We'll take our time, just as nature takes its time.
