Mine is Yigdal, with the traditional melody we've sung at my synagogue going all the way back to my childhood. At our shul, we sang it only once a year - at the end of the Kol Nidre service. Second favorite (as a child) was L'Cha Dodi, welcoming in the Sabbath on Friday nights after a long work at school.

You?

I love Adon Olam. When I went back home for my niece’s Bat Mitzvah in 2016, the cantor was the same cantor when I was a kid. I said hello before the service and told her that I’ve always loved that song bc of her. When the service was coming to an end, the cantor said she was going to finish with Adon Olam (which I think she said wasn’t a typical song to close out a Bat Mitzvah, but I could be wrong) for Allison’s aunt. It was such a sweet thing for her to do .

I haven’t been to any services yet( in person), so don’t know a lot of synagogue songs. As far as prayers, I do love the Amidah and the Shema, which by coincidence was talked about in the Parsha today.
I have nightmares of having to cough or sneeze during the Amidah , or people hearing my stomach growl.
I love Kol Nidre. It’s the most lovely sound I ever heard. It always makes me Misty eyed. It’s like it has something subliminal in it , to make me cry.
I do hear other songs, but they change the tune to some songs,or they have different melodies, so it’s hard to find the version I liked.

I do have favourite Jewish themed songs ,that aren’t synagogue related, like Hatikvah ( though sometimes it is sung at synagogue). The song “ Mashiach” is very catching. “ Hava Nagila, and the Chanukah candle lighting song ,I love. I actually recognized that song( tune)! My grandma used to sing a bedtime song to me with that melody. It was in English. I can’t remember the words. It was something about the sandman .
I love Chassidic , Niggunim, and Klezmer music also.

My favorite is Mi Shebeirach, the prayer for healing. All of our prayers feel powerful to me, but this one especially resonates with me.

Yes, Hatkivah is beautiful. On my first trip to Israel in 1979, with a youth group, we stood at the bridge overlooking Jerusalem and sang it. One of the most moving moments of my life - up until then, or since.

For shabbat services, it's Etz Chayim.
For kabbalat shabbat, it's Lecha Dodi.
