Tax credit to allow restoration of vacant Chatham apartments in KC - KansasCity.com (http://www.kansascity.com/2010/11/30/2487795/tax-credit-to-allow-restoration.html - broken link)

http://media.kansascity.com/smedia/2010/11/30/23/chatham4_12-01-2010_MU1IO108.embedded.prod_affiliate.81.jpg (broken link)

Tax incentives have been used to bring back both the Broadway and Amour Blvd Corridors. If it were not for the tax breaks, none of the restoration projects would have happened.

State tax credits have also been used to restore many vacant warehouses and office buildings in the downtown and crossroads areas into condos and apartments.

Maybe Missouri should get smart and use them to lure businesses from the KS side to farm fields near KCI?

Come on MO and KCMO, get progressive! Don't you want to be like KS and KCK/JoCo!

Very glad to hear they're restoring the Chatham. That building is lovely, but an eyesore in its present state.

And it's also a hangout for junkies who go shoot up in their. They usually get the money from donating plasma right next door. That plasma center needs to be removed, it's a hangout for junkies and drug dealers.

SO and I used to walk Broadway from the Plaza up to Penn Valley Park every Saturday and Sunday morning...I would always admire the bones of the Chatham building, and be sad that it it's in such blighted shape. And, yeah, we'd typically get accosted by junkies trying to sell random sh*t when we'd walk by.

Drive by there 10 times a week, and it's great to hear they're going to restore it.

Went by it today; it's certainly going to be an undertaking.

So local and state tax incentive programs do exist in KC?

Does that mean it's a matter of choice how they are used?

FWIW, I think the project is a good one. I hope it pays off for KC in terms of revitalization of the area.

All cities have some tax credits or another.

What do historic tax credits used for the preservation of old buildings have to do with anything?

Nothing other than showing just how completely clueless some people are when it comes to comprehending certain things...

MO uses this specific type of incentive to help people restore old buildings. It has nothing to do with bringing in jobs etc.

It’s a great use of incentives to redevelop older areas though. That was my point.

So why did you make the connection in your original post? Just being snarky? Okay, well, I was just playing along.

I'm not nearly as clueless as you would like to be able to make me out to be.
