Snow creek issued a statement on their web site that their credit card processing system was compromised. My husband used his card at Snow Creek in January and today while making a purchase his card was denied. When he called the credit card company they had put a hold on his account for unusual activity. Unfortunately, he discovered several unauthorized purchases had been made to his credit card, for purchases made in Georgia, Florida and Texas. Check your statements carefully. So sad this happened to Snow Creek, they are a local business that we will continue to support and look forward to many years of skiing with them. Check their web site for additional information as online sales were not compromised.

Default Don't Appreciate Being Compromised

Unfortunately, the same thing happened to us, and a friend we took with us. On mine it was $800.00 out of Pennsylvania, and $200.00 out of New York. The bank called me,and I had to go and get a new debit/credit card. My account is fine...boy, I'll not be going there without cash in my pocket. I think I'm going to give them a call. I don't appreciate being compromised, and I took off work to go to the bank.

On our friend's account, he tried to use the card, and it was denied, and he knew he had the money in the account. He called the bank, and then heard about Snow creek.

I like going to Snow Creek, but, I think they owe us a pass of some sort, cause it was a bunch of junk to have to go through. I think a phone call is in order to them. And I think everyone else who they took the card number from should call them, as well, and we might end up patronizing Mt. Crescent.

I would imagine they use a CC transaction processing company and that they were the ones who were stolen from right? That's not to suggest that Snow Creek has no culpability, but the fact is this could happen literally any time you use your credit card.

This is one reason I prefer to use my credit card as opposed to my debit card whenever I can -- fraud protection is typically much better with CCs.

Frankly, I'm surprised that Snow Creek is getting so much of the blame for this because it happens everywhere. It happened to me, my stepdaughter and a neighbor right after Thanksgiving 2008. My stepdaughter and I used our cards at Bed, Bath & Beyond and Ulta in Overland Park. The neighbor was shopping somewhere else. Our cards were used all over the place, from Chicago, to Brooklyn, to Poland. If credit card hackers can sit outside a mall and wirelessly snag your CC information, then yeah, pay with cash or check. But don't think this is the ski resort's fault. This could just as easily happen at Mt. Crescent, or your local grocery store, for that matter.

We never had to pay for any of the unauthorized charges, and neither will you. Beyond that, you are not due anything.

If it involves setting up a speed trap, they'll be all over it.
