Recommendations on neighborhoods, school districts and gov't housing near Ft. Lev (real estate, rental)

We are moving to Ft. Leavenworth/ KC area in July. We won't be living on base and would like some input on neighborhoods (good, not so good..) Also, my son receives speech and OT services and I'd like to know which school district we should be aiming to live in.

Also, any input on pre-schools is appreciated.

What is KS like? What is the culture like? Friendly? More private?

I might be asking for too much here, but is there a good rental real estate agency you'd recommend near the area? Particularly for "government housing?" We'll be there only a year.

Ft. Leavenworth is an area that I'm not too familiar with.

In general, the culture here is very laid back. Your neighbors will likely be friendly and inviting.
