I know that there was an Electric theater back in the day, but as for an Electric street, I haven't heard much about that. I'll look into it though

I know! I think we have discussed this before over the last 5 years, but don't recall where. I'll give you a chance to find the answer, which may shock Pearjas!

It seems that in the early twentieth century, the locations of many theaters remained the same, but the ownership and names changed.

In 1911, the 3 theaters were the Cozy Theater at 117 West Lexington, Electric Theather at 215 North Main, and Lyric Theater at 209 West Lexington.

The Electric Theater remained at 215 North Main (the current KnitCraft Building) until 1948 (maybe later).

The Cozy Theater was a short lived venture in Independence, seemily only in business from 1910 to 1911. The building in which it was located burned in 1921 and was replaced with the current building (former Plowman's Photography building) that housed the Elliot Theatre during the 1920s, and later the Dickinson Theater (1930-32) and the Plaza Theater (1934-1950 at least).

The Fairmount Theater was located on Independence Avenue (now 24 Highway) - the address changed in the 1930s when the streets were renumbered, but it was at the SE corner of Independence and Ash. It was the Fairmount Theater from around 1924 to around 1936; by 1938, the name it had become the Byam Theater and remained so until at least 1950.

The Maywood Theater was located on the south side of Truman Road (formerly 15th Street and Van Horn) between Ash and Hardy; it was originally called the Elms Theater (ca. 1924-1928), but became the Maywood Theater around 1930 and remained in operation until at least 1950.

Other Theaters included the New Lewis Theater at 325 West Maple (ca. 1924-1930), which became the Grenada Theater and operated until at least 1950; the Majestic Theater at 214 North Main Street (ca. 1932 - ?); the Gillis Theater at 221 East White Oak (basically where the new Transit Station is), ca. 1930-1933; an the later coming Englewood Theater at 10919 Winner Road.

So, it seems there WAS an Electric street, as well as an Electric theater. From what I understand, what is now Lexington was formerly called Electric street because of the Electric Line Streetcar.

Don't take my word on that though, because I probably pulled half of it out of thin air.

There was a "new" exchange when I was a kid, called "garden". If I remember correctly, it was mostly out east, towards the old Indep. airport, in the new developments along R.D.Mize road.
