Because there was a story in the Examiner when it opened its doors.

I was only about 14 or 15 when it opened, chuckle.

I heard a lot of adults around me say the price was so high no one would want to stay there.

I think the Earle Hotel on the square was $1.50 or $2.00 per night.

If it did, I was gone from the area. But that name does sound familiar.

I think you could go inside at this A&W and I thought there were living quarters upstairs but the area above does not look large enough for a living area. I also dont remember the brick wainscoat.

It also seems to me that if this is the former A&W you could drive further back for parking on each side. This photo has a wood fence on both sides cutting the drive off.

It is listed as vacant in 1960, so yes it goes back into the fifties. 132 E. US 24

Chuckle, I would not have thought it went out that early. It seemed to be a lively place when I was in high school.

You're thinking too far north.

24 highway and Little Blue Parkway interchange.

The old Clark Bernard Drugstore later Safeway location at 23rd and Noland where the Quik Trip appeared to be taking over the entire block on Noland from 23rd to Fair.

At the old Candy Stripe drive in across from Hill Park.
I'm not sure about 24 Hi & LB, as we haven't been out that way since apple time. The new QT is progressing nicely, some concrete work is done on the lot and the building is enclosed.

At the old Candy Stripe the new Dollar General is going up quickly. They just did a same-style new store on 24 Highway just west of Jennings (where Zarda Dairy used to be) and it went up and opened in just a few months.
