This is interesting about the Centroplis-Golden Acres bus line.

Golden Acres was a new post-war subdivision east of Noland Road on Gudgel at Manor Road, which before 1948 was just south of the Independence city limits.

Centropolis was a large "town" in the 7300 east block of Truman just west of I-435 that had its own freight and passenger train station in the fifties.

I am thinking that this bus did not travel from Centropolis to Golden Acres. I doubt if too many people in Centropolis wanted to come to Independence or go to Golden Acres. In this case, I am thinking that "Centropolis" meant the Independence city center, ie, the square.

Perhaps it was centered at the Square, with separate routes to Golden Acres and Centropolis.

Could be. It would make sense for there to be a local Truman Road bus route. I think the KC bus line turned off Independence Avenue at Arlington and headed for Winner Road to come into the square via Lexington.

Maybe an Independence bus line following Truman Road west turned around at what was to be Van Horn High School and just called it the Centropolis line. Centropolis the "town" was still a couple miles or so further east.

It just seems to me that few, if anyone, in the Centropolis "town" area would identify with Independence.

Here is a map of Centropolis. The St. Louis-San Francisco Ry depot was at Truman Road and the tracks. Frisco trains stopped there before arriving at Union Station in the fifties. At the time there were half a dozen tracks surrounding the depot and all crossed Truman Road at that spot. The trains caused a commuter problem for Truman Road traffic. An automobile bridge now spans the tracks area from the Blue River to Bristol Avenue. The depot is long gone as are most of the tracks.

Although he is buried at Hill Park, I was not aware that Frank James actually lived in or near Independence except for his six month incarceration in the old jail.

Perhaps his residence was near what is now Hill Park.
