When I was a boy, I was all the time reading--or hearing--about the Battery Block in Independence.

I never knew what it was until several years later.

What and where was it?

The building pictured looks like Rockwood Country Club at Hardy and Westport.

Isn't that where the old-timers went to get charged up? I think it was just west of the CSB.

It is indeed the Rockwood Country Club building.

It has been two years since the golf course closed and fifteen years since this building was torn down.
