The listing for Moody's covered only the odd side of the street. I'm pretty sure the houses were listed, as they have been there a long time.

No map nor photo needed for today's quiz.

What important role did Thomas Beil play in Independence history?

He knew me, and I knew him, thus I'm a small part of that history.

Is this the same Thomas Biel that was the last Governor of the Optimist International Missouri before being divided into two districts (east and west)?

I don't think so, as I'm pretty sure the Optimist was Thomas Bell. However, Thomas Biel may have been in the Optimists, as he was very optimistic and civic-minded. His place in Independence history is very local, but had far-reaching effects.

He was an institution at a local institution. We have discussed that institution somewhere in the last 800 pages.

I've been dealing with some RL issues, thus I'm now playing catch up.

Back in my dispatching days, Lake City was almost like a foreign country. They operated quite independently. Several incidents occurred when we offered assistance but were turned away. Today there is still an independence to their operation, but with a spirit of cooperation. The Lake City Security Force uses the Independence portion of the regional P-25 public safety communications system. This gives them instant communication with other agencies on their radios by selecting a mutual-aid channel. In my day that wasn't an option, all info was relayed by phone between dispatchers.

The institution where Tom became an institution was located in various rented spaces near the Square for many years. Finally funds were raised allowing them to build their own place, where they are still in operation today. That permanent home is not around the square, but is within walking distance for someone in good shape.
