23rd Street from about Logan to Kiger. That is a Dairy Creme operation on the northeast corner of Kiger and 23rd across from C&J Grocery on the northwest side.

I dont seem to recall the small arch street with trees just north of Crane and 23rd, maybe it is a driveway.

Make that Fairway Super Market on the southeast corner of Logan and 23rd.

[quote=Mad Anthonie;40751690]Welcome punny guy! It looks like you'll fit right in. Do you have roots in Independence?

Thanks Mad Anthonie, I have lived in this area for years. Had to do some creative searching for the answer to that question.

What brought me to this forum in the first place was a search for information on the Independence Police Department a couple of years ago and I finally decided to take the plunge and join in. Took a little bit to read through all the pages of posts.

I noticed all the construction pictures. What was with all the construction in the 70's? What all happened to make the 70's so bad? Is that when the Independence Center came into play?

I thought it would be too easy! You have won a self-paid trip to historic Independence!

The Urban Renewal Debacle removed much of the on-street parking, discouraging shoppers. The Blue Ridge Mall had already pulled away some shoppers. Others went to the strip malls along Noland. UR and the Independence Center were the final nails in the coffin.

Yes and no LOL, This has been a great source for all sorts of info. You have a book that I have been searching for and I have been looking for good pictures of the old badges that IPD have worn prior to 1973.

I'll check my collection, but don't hold your breath. I do have a hat-badge from that era.

Default Doutt's lake

Doutt's lake is still there! It's behind the KIA dealership on Noland road behind the shops on the lower level straight west about 1200 feet. The place was named after the family of which State Rep. Sam Doutt was part of . We swam there from 1962 -1974, sometime after that it was close by the health dept. , Not safe to swim , no chlorine, really? That place had a water slide that was 4-6 stories tall , and when you sit on a air mattress and went down the slide, you could fly across the lake. It was the best. Crisp lake is in fairmount off of 24 highway, behind the Old Cable Chevy dealership building ,I was told it was part of the ten plus acre lake that ran across 24 highway into Fairmount Park. there is a great book that has been written about Fairmount Park, a must read book, the Author is from Sugar Creek,Mo.

Welcome! Stick around and help us remember.

What is the name of the book and author?
