This is just an interesting fact I noticed.

This past year the KCK School District ended the year with over 21,000 students and appears to be growing. They are actually replacing aging schools, even in the urban core, with new buildings.

Two new schools being built

The KCMO School District's enrollment continues to dwindle and according to the below article is now down to below 16,000 students. It's interesting that the article says the district once had as many as 77,000 students in the 1960's! I can't find KCK's peak enrollment number, but I don't think it was anywhere near

According to this site, KCMO is actually down to below 14,000.

And KCK is just over 20,000.

Olathe has 26,000 students.

Interesting comparison.

^That's a little misleading. There are 6+ school districts in 'KCMO' and lots of charter/magnet schools but one of the school districts (the worst one) known as 'KCMO School District' closed half their schools (and needs to close the remaining soon). If not, they need to rename it as the KCMO name implies it's the only school district in KCMO city boundaries.

Well, it's no surprise why JOCO is getting so overcrowded.

It didn't mislead me. I understood exactly what she meant. I think most people can distinguish between a city and school district. What you're saying could be called a little misleading too, because you fail to mention the KCMO district is KCMO's main school district encompassing the main part of the city.

I assumed we WERE talking about KCMO School District (i.e., not Center, not Hickman Mills, etc.), given the thread title. As an educator, I am fully aware of the individual districts serving the city itself and the surrounding metro. It's not misleading at all.

Yeah, I didn't think you intended it that way. But reading what you said w/out context (probably 99% who will read this thread don't follow KCSD), it basically sounded like half of the schools in KCMO were closed.
