We moved to KC back in October and I am looking to get my business back up and running here. Any places I should look into for advertising or ideas on ways to get the word out?

Thanks!

I'd say Overland Park, "those" kind of people seem to like taking photos more than other areas from what I've seen... might as well live in the area where your biggest client population is

I'd say Craigslist, but that seems ugh to me (and I don't even know if it is all that useful, but it's free). You could see if the local hospitals have "baby" photographers and if you could work for them as a contractor (the photo company, not hospital).

The bigger ones seem to have taken contracts for the school yearbook photos and not sure how well you'll get those. You could just make yourself known at the local events, hand out business cards and take photos for them. I think for a small business, being around for long enough and getting spotted would be more useful than advertizing. But I'm not in that business so I don't know what works. I'm just telling you what I remember and who I look up if I need that service.

Cool, I do architectural, so I was just wondering. I have some friends that do that type of photography and one of the bigger ways they get the word out is via social media, but I'm not sure how effective that is, I know I have not had a lot of luck with it but most of my customers are business people (not really facebook type customers looking for family pics). You might try craigslist or something. I don't think your market is limited to Johnson County by any stretch. You would have potential customers across the entire metro and suburbs.

I would try to develop a niche product weddings, graduations etc and style (urban grit, nature etc) and quickly get a website up with local scenes that people recognize so you look established and have a portfolio. A good landing website with samples of your work using local keywords that is google search friendly is probably the best way to get things going.
