My girlfriend and I both late 30's are plan a visit to KCMO for next weekend. We're looking for some recommendations on what to see and do. During the day we'd like to check out museums and farmers markets. If there are any festivals going on I'm interested. For nightlife BBQ is a must. We prefer dive bars over dance clubs. Alt country and blues over heavy metal. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

- City Market on Saturday/Sunday mornings/early afternoon - Saturdays most lively
- Nelson Atkins Museum is free, huge and comprehensive - start in Egyptian section
- BBQ: Char Bar (late night Q to 2AM, outdoor bar games - avoid brisket, everything else good), Q39, KC Joe's, LC's, Arthur Bryants on Brooklyn
- Dive bars: Mostly around and off Westport, also w39th and check out Xroads. Dave's Stagecoach Inn, Chez Charlie, Blarney Stone, Buzzard Beach are divey in a good way, all near Westport.
- Back alley swanky bars to check out too: Manifesto in Xroads, The Ship in W Bottoms, Julep and CaVa in Westport
- Quirky Breakfast: Succotash, You Say Tomato, Genessee Royale, Chez Elle, Happy Gillis
- If into beer, might book a Blvd Brewing tour
- Knuckleheads in E Bottoms for blues/alt-country otherwise would suggest Green Lady Lounge for a KC experience and Tank room next door. Westport and Xroads have most music venues. If up for late nighter jazz/blues jam sessions, Mutual Musicians Foundation (yelp it) - opens at 1AM fri/sat til dawn
- You probably would've liked Westport Roots Fest going on this weekend. Rock Fest is largest fest going on that weekend, but doesn't sound like your thing. Crown Center/Union Station/Liberty Memorial area will be a zoo that Saturday - might check those out Friday or Sunday.

A majority of the city things to do are along this bus line. There are also about 500 Uber drivers in KC, usually cheaper than cab.

Thank you very much Xenokc. That's exactly the kind of info I'm looking for.

If you want a dive, some authentic KC and the best burgers in the city, you have to hit Westport Flea Market. It's a bar, not an actual flea market. And it's awesome.

Bike Smut Film Fest in Midtown that Friday...

The Bike Smut Film Festival is now in its 8th year and has never been just a single person's vision, rather, a coalition of the horny work together to bring this synthesis of transportation and sexuality to life. Bike Smut is a collection of short erotic films made by inspired cyclists from all over the world. It is creative, funny, and aware!

I second Westport Flea Market.
I gave my fiance the tour last time we visited. "...And this is the corner where serial killer Bob Berdella had his shop."

Westport Flea Market is awesome.

If you want to go somewhere other than Westport Road for nightlife, check out Knuckleheads and/or BB's Lawnside, both of which are venues that are a bit off the beaten tourist path, for honkytonk, BBQ, and blues.

BB's a good suggestion for what he's looking - and decent Q for a music venue, mostly locals. Might be worth the trek to 85th St.
