We are relocating from St. Louis and need to stay on MO side. I know the school districts in these areas are all good. What I want to know is how these communities compare in terms of having a community/neighborhood feel, things to do? I have several children (high schoolers, middle schoolers, grade school)- which area is going to have shopping, movies, malls, places to walk around, movies/concerts in the park, community pools, lots of activities-just basically things to do on weekends/during summers. We don't want to feel way out in the boonies (nothing that feels like farm land/corn field) would prefer a friendly neighborhood/suburbs with trees, hills, etc... My husband will commute downtown but during non-heavy traffic/rush hours). He currently has a 20-25 minute commute.

Thanks in advance for any input! We will get out there soon to actually look, but want to research as much as possible first. Thank you, thank you (we are excited- well....kids are coming around).

I lived in Lee's Summit for several years, and loved it for the community feel. They have a very active downtown council, and that area is very oriented toward festivals, music in the park, community events. LS is sprawly, though, and I can't vouch for far flung development having the same feel as their vintage late 1800s downtown.

Yeah, Lee's Summit is great for the downtown. I recently lived in an apartment in the Longview area of west Lee's Summit, and that's definitely a great up-and-coming area.

On the other hand, it would be nifty to live near Zona Rosa in Northland, too.

Blue Springs is decent but personally I'd choose LS or Northland over it.

As much as I love Blue Springs, being a resident for the last 17 years, there's not a lot to do around here. Great schools, reasonably priced homes, police, fire, good city services, etc. But I agree with James Bond 007, there will be much more to do in Lee's Summit, although the drive isn't far. Northland isn't bad, around Zona Rosa.

Gotta throw in a plug for Parkville. Sounds like it would be perfect fit for you, with a crazy short commute to downtown.
