I know a couple who are going on vacation for 7 days and have asked if I would care for their small dog. Because of my irregular schedule, it was determined it would be better all around if the dog stayed in our home. This would mean day and night sitting for 6-7 days. Question: I don't know how much to charge for this service. I am not a professional dog sitter; I just like this small dog and she likes me. I've known here since she was a pup several years ago. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

What’s the going rate to board them at the vet’s? Charge half of that and they supply the food. If they are friends, rather than someone you just “know” I’d do it for free.

Usually when I dog sit for family or friends I don't charge anything because I also have a dog, so it works itself out when they watch him. If it's somebody you don't know that well, I would say $10-$15 per day. Now if you have any out of pocket expenses, definitely get reimbursed for that, like if you run out of dog food or any grooming expenses the owner requests.
