Can a company keep you from going to the BBB about them?

no.

If you have a major problem with them you can also go to the agency which licenses them (all states have a commission that license home improvement businesses. Many have departments that deal with car dealers).

We have used the BBB several times and will take their reviews into account before hiring a company. They are often able to provide more resolution help than just complaining on Yelp.

No one can stop you from using their services!

I live in Kansas City and the business is in Kansas City.
Why are YOU posting in a Kansas City thread?

I won't say yet what the name of this business is because they had me sign an agreement that stated I won't go to the BBB about them. And sure enough when I searched BBB the business is not listed. Also I'm not supposed to go on any social media and cast them in a negative light.
They scammed me good. I think I can take them to small claims court. But what if anything else can I or should I do?
This is really serious as they breached the agreement but are saying they didn't. *sigh* Thanks.

Have you talked to a lawyer? No one can take away your legal rights. Why did you sign such an agreement?

If the BBB doesn't have a listing, it might be because they have too many complaints to be able to handle. We had a property mgt company with many complaints until they finally disappeared from their list. Maybe a friend could call the BBB to inquire about the company?

I haven't spoken with a lawyer.
I did the wrong thing by trusting them.
What normal person reads all of the legal mumbo jumbo?
Thank you for replying.

You didn't mention living in KC or the business being in KC till now. But the question is still of a general nature, The answer would not change if you lived in St Louis or Walla Walla. So the question belongs in a consumer-related forum, not a geographic one.

To answer your other question, I post in the KC forum when I want to discuss KC-related topics. Although I no longer live there, I am from the area and have family and friends still residing there.
