What are the thoughts on moving to the 64134 area? I am looking to rent a bigger home and it seems like a few houses in this area meet my criteria. Yes I will visit but I want to know from EXPERIENCE and not hearsay about the area. Also, what high school is in this area? I seen previous posts saying it is "ghetto," however that was over a decade ago. Any updates? TIA!

That zip code encases a few KC area towns. You might get more responses if you narrow down what you want and where you want.

It looks as though if you stick to neighborhoods north of 470 it might not be too bad in a lower middle class sort of way. You will be near the Ruskin Heights area, which is where people who lived in the Wayne Miner housing projects were relocated in the 1980's, when they were demolished, and has been an area plagued with crime ever since.

Thumbs up 64134

New to this forum, but not new to 64134. I live in Ruskin Heights. I heard a statistic. Only 20% of the homes in Ruskin Heights are owner occupied. The woman went on to say "you can see where the problem is". I guess I didn't. I take care of my property, my people, my yard, my trash, etc. I also rent. I know my neighbors but and I mind my own business. There are a few things that do happen and they are not rental nor race related. The gun shots almost every night, and people stealing anything you own are not specific to this neighborhood but I think a lot of the neighbors would say it's pretty bad. With the closing of a certain convenience store, the neighbors think it will cut down on violence. I hope it will. This is not an easy solution so remind each other that we all just want the same thing at the end of the day. Get through another day and maybe learn something, meet someone, do nice things, and better ourselves.

I know a young man that was at that 7-Eleven at 107th&Blue Ridge. His truck took a few hits and a friend in the truck had a bullet graze his neck. Just innocent guys that had just pulled into the store lot. After this last shoot-out; 7 Elevensn" windows were shot out and they just boarded the windows and quit that location.

Many people murdered there. Including a 3 yr old baby girl. Lot's of drugs there.

A new just overnight but I can't find it again. A young man walking home wearing his Taco Bell uniform and was shot for no apparent reason.

I want to apologize to any person of color for my remarks. Any person black, or brown, or Asian. Any father of a daughter will worry about their child living in this area. There are plenty of mean people on Kansas City streets. As a handicapped person, I am treated so much better by people of color than white people any day of the week.
