Why? Can you explain in your own words:

1) Why is this bad?
2) Why did you link us to a lawyers FAQ website that doesn't address your comments?

Are you just trying to drum up business for someone indirectly?

1) I did in no way say this was bad. Sad, I said sad.
2) I gave the link because it describes what Dead Peasants Insurance is. I did have some trouble supplying the link as I just wanted to go to the site but every time I copied the link it did what you see.
3) No, I'm not drumming up any business for anyone.

Maybe I should have put "FYI" as the subject or opening sentence.
Sorry.

Well, why is it sad then?

It could be nothing more than a company insuring themselves from the amounts they have to pay out to the employees family via workers' compensation or life insurance.

Basically, it might just be a pass-thru where the company doesn't want to deal with self-insuring those risks and instead just buys coverage on the employee in the amount that they would have to pay to the employees family.

However, I can't tell that or anything else from the information provided so I'm left staring at some garbage lawyers website with no facts or criteria relating to those actual companies.

I think Dead Peasant insurance sounds like smart business practice. What really bothers me though is the idea of Dead Pheasant insurance, which is what I thought the title of the thread was at first.

It is insurance proceeds the company keeps tax free and does NOT pay out to the employee's family via workers' comp or life insurance. Often the employee doesn't even know the company has them insured.

So what? Neither the employee nor his family paid out premiums. What exactly is it that is loss to them?

That's not what I said.

Let me give an example....

ABC corp insures all it's bus drivers with life insurance from State Farm.

Bob the bus driver dies in a wreck or has a heart attack and his family collects $$$ from either workers' compensation or the company life insurance plan. Either way, it's money *generally* (this could be complicated) coming out of the companies pocket.

After ABC pays Bobs family...they collect money from State Farm.

-----------------------------------------------------------

This is all speculation however because no facts have been provided other than a rough definition of dead peasant insurance which could mean lots of things as the term is abused.

Now, if it's some guy taking out insurance on illegals he hires to do dangerous work and will pay nothing if they die but will instead collect money....then that's scummy but I HIGHLY doubt an insurance company will pay any claims since there is no "insurable interest".
