I would like to visit the Flint Hills area of Kansas. Is mid-May a good time to see some wildflowers?

It would be my favorite time. The ranchers typically burn their cattle ranges much earlier than that, then it comes up beautifully green across the hills that have been burned. Of course weather can tricky at that time, it is prime tornado season, but if you can get some clear weather it's usually pretty mild then.

Yup. Camp Wood YMCA in Elmdale has an overlook that gives a pretty good view. The drive there is is on US 50. Take care on 50; it gets a lot of semi-truck traffic. Council Grove, Cottonwood Falls, Strong City around that area should be pretty.

Depends what you want to see. In the month of April, the flint hill will be on fire. At night, it is a sight to see miles of fire. May, you can catch the spring-early summer wildflowers and grass. Although June-July is the peak of seeing the highest diversity of wildflowers, grass and forbs. At dusk and dawn, it is breathtaking, peaceful time to really catch what it sounds like more than 150 years ago.
