This is for two children, ages 7 & 9, for a small gift basket for each of them so they can get a little sense of Kansas as we travel through the state.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks!

Sunflower seed cookies.

Or do it the easy way at Kansas Originals.

Have a safe drive. They'd love the Cosmosphere at Hutchinson, as might you (ever seen an SR-71, or a real V-1?). It might be educational to take them to the Amelia Earhart museum in Atchison, and Ike's library in Abilene. They were ours.

Also, to help avoid having your wave harshed, careful on speed limits--the Kansas Highway Patrol are very professional, but they are also exceptionally devious. Think 75 will be okay through here because there's no way anyone could possibly have you on radar? I wouldn't do that. Think they wouldn't patrol in an unmarked red Vette seized from drug dealers? Oh, they would and they do.

Have fun. Wish I were going.

I've never seen that Kansas Originals site before, pretty cool. There are a couple of Kansas Gift Stores in Wichita in the malls. Unfortunately, they don't have websites.

The Cosmosphere has a website and a store: Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center
The salt mine also has a website: Kansas Underground Salt Museum

Kansas Sampler Foundation

The Sampler festival has plenty of info on state wide vendors, artist as well as products that are made in Kansas. The Kansas Sampler foundation might have gifts bags also.

our state bird is meadowlark, flower is sunflower, amphibian is box turtle, etc. you might be able to find some images and print them. dorothy's ruby slippers from the wizard of oz are usually a hit for girls. a yellow brick road might be a way to show a highway. puffed wheat snacks would go with our main agricultural crop.

Hello again! I also must recommend something from each of our top universities... JayHawk Bird, Purple PowerCat and last but not least a WU Shock.

Topeka and Wichita both have the Kansas Sampler stores. Here is their website Kansas Sampler | KU Jayhawks t shirt, Jayhawks clothing, apparel, merchandise store

If your girls wear earrings they might like these red slippers... like Dorthy had in the Wizard of Oz

I have read all your posts and even I am getting excited about your trip! As I said.... PLEASE PLEASE post pictures and tell us how you liked your trip. I especially would like to hear about your stay at Hedricks Bed and Breakfast.

Geekychick,

I promise to post pictures & talk about my trip. If I can get my act together, I may put together a cross-country blog w/ photos & video. If I do I'll post the link.

Thanks so much for your help!
