I was thinking the same thing. It's because the town is young and liberalism is sort if in. Just as many actual liberal attitudes and personalities KU brings to that town, it brings a-holes who would give a little Chinese guy a hard time.

In fact I'm more of a conservative guy (except conservative implies some racism).
I have not really experienced much hostility in Lawrence. However I think a lot of people in Kansas do not know what to do with non-whites.

when ever you are an out sider you have to pass a test so to speak. Its up to you to show them how much you have in common with them. Ideally it seems that people should reach out to you ,but don't wait for that to happen. It would be the same for a white teacher in an all black school. It is not enough reassurance to the students that the teacher as chosen to work at that school.

Texas is extremely diverse. The metros of Dallas, Houston, and Austin are all examples.

I have heard KU receives a large contingent of Chicagoland students due to the tuition differential being that much lower compared to the Illinois state schools.

I love this post! My first thought was that your dislike of China buffet could work to your advantage. At least you wouldn't be tempted to eat up all your profits! I wonder if that explains why I haven't seen any fat Asians at any of the China buffets in my area. I have noticed that they seem to attract a lot of very nice looking Asian women working the tables. Something to think about.

Yes, because living in Kansas is so much better than living in world class cities like Shanghai or Beijing.

Soooo Nosnah, can you name a country that any official is not Bought and paid for? I doubt it.
Maybe you should move on from Kansas to a place that you like better.
