I recently applied for a job in Vernal, UT, a remote town in northeast Utah. I'm a courier and my company needed someone located there by himself. Couldn't make the transfer work due to lack of available housing, but I did notice they have air service to Denver on Great Lakes Airlines.

On investigating further found that quite a few towns around the country have subsidized flights provided by various small airlines under the gov't's Essential Air Service program. Great Lakes is one of the biggest providers, and flies to several western Kansas towns. Every now and then we have an opening in these towns, Garden City, Dodge City, and Hays. They also fly to Liberal and Great Bend. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with their service and feel it's safe and dependable? I'm looking for a smaller place to transfer to and having air service to Denver to get out of town once in awhile would be a great plus. I lived in Topeka in the early 90's so familiar to some extent with the winters. Thanks for any info and opinions about which towns have the best quality of life would be appreciated.

I had forgotten about the Kansan sense of humor. Speaking of which, got used to hearing and repeating long, intricate jokes with great punchlines that always got laughs in Topeka and Emporia. Moved to Texas and had to stop telling them. Folks down here just don't get it!

I have been on many a Great Lakes flight from Denver to Great Bend KS. I have always had nice customer service and never ever felt unsafe but that may be more due to my dad being a private pilot and having flown in lots of "vomit comet" sized planes.
I did encounter a delay last year on 12/22 but it was due to weather. That being said, I sat in the Denver airport for a very long time since I ended up missing my connection.
A few years ago,, my mom was delayed about 6 hours outta Denver due to "mechanical" issues..
I actually feel like that GL Aviation is miles ahead of a delta, Amrican etc.plus, you always get a window seat!
