I realize there is another thread similar, but it is dealing mainly with commute times.

I am just looking for apartments that will be pretty close to the University of Kansas. I need something decent but at a good price. Everything looks pretty expensive, I wouldn't mind roommates, but I'm looking to pay around $350-450 for my share.

I am going to be going down there to check everything out, and I am trying to search online but it would be really nice to have some direction on where to look.

Thanks!

Lawrence can be expensive for rent because of the huge student population. Rentals are in demand so they are high compared to other areas. But they are out there.

at $350-400 you are pretty much relegated to the student ghetto. It it located on the west side of Massachusetts Street between Vermont Street on the Eastern border and Michigan/Arkansas on the western border. 4th street on the north and 19th street on the south. Also you probably need roommates.

Otherwise, there is section 8 housing on the south side of town, but it is not walkable to campus.

I've been searching online and have seen plenty of apartments for my price range. There is absolutely no way that I'm going to be living in section 8 housing.......

I was hoping for some people to help narrow down apartment complexes around the university because there were so many.

If you have a car an apartment complex would be good , other wise owning a car is a hassle, there's no where to park and tow companies get $175.00 plus $35.00 per day. So the closer you get to Campus the less parking you will find on the week days. Lawrence has a good bus system so you could also try to find locations near bus stops.

Most of the apartment complexes are on the KU bus line.

My daughters lived at Chase Court. It is on 19th Street between Naismith and Iowa, just south of Allen Fieldhouse. It's within walking distance to campus if you want to walk; I think the bus also stops there, though. I don't know that I'd want to walk it in pouring down rain or zero degrees. But it's not a bad walk if no extremes.

Here's a link with other apartments. There is one complex just off of Clinton Parkway that rents apartments by the bedroom. So if you didn't already have a roommate they would pair you with someone. You are responsible for the rent on your bedroom only, and you are not responsible if someone else in your apartment doesn't pay their share for their bedroom. If I think of the name I'll come back and post it. I think you should find it somewhere on the link below though.

Lawrence, Kansas Apartments - The Apartment Department

Edit - I found it. It's Legends Place where you just pay for your own bedroom and you're not responsible for anyone else's share if they don't pay. I thought it was on Clinton Parkway but I don't remember exactly where it was. Anyway, looks like the price might be in your range.
