FYI- 15,000 years ago Wisconsin was 90% covered by ice. We know the change didn't occur due to mammoth farts but we need to keep an open mind.

Any fiscal conservative worth their salt is watching this pretty closely.

Perhaps the industry need to investigate cleaning water from the brine formations to create the fresh water they need. Then again they would have to figure out a way to dispose of the salt and other resulting minerals. In some operations the indistry nows use brine as a displacement fluid where fresh water isn'r required reducing the amount of fresh water needed.

The bottom line is that fresh water issues in the midwest are entirely a geographical issue.

We dump around a 1/2 mil gallons a SECOND into the gulf of mexico via the Mississippi

The Great Lakes region generally doesn't have the fresh water concerns like the Great Plains region does. I've said this before but I think portions of the Plains will have much more serious water supply problems due to overpumping the Ogallala Aquifer. As the climate is getting warmer in these areas more irrigation derived "fossil water" is used. I believe Kansas just modified this "first use" policy regarding water rights.
