Kansas has actually blown companies moving to other parts of the state just because they spent all the money on Johnson County. There were several Ag related manufacturing companies that were promised grants and financial assistants to move to south west Kansas from Florida, then when they tried to move out here Kansas retracted all assistance because they wanted AMC to move to Johnson County. Now the county that the company was supposed to move to is out of money because they gave out aid based on the state saying they would.

I'm sure they've lost opportunities with Wichita and Topeka too based on the fact that our state government knows that JoCo can't float on it's own.

All I can say is lol...

Kansas businesses receive more than $1B in incentives - Kansas City Business Journal

And they are not slowing down

Again, all I can say is haha that tax payers put up with this. No wonder the state can't fund its schools, let alone much of anything beyond that (transit, parks etc).
Didn't KCMO pay Applebee's $12 million in incentives to move from Lenexa to KCMO?

You replied to this thread already, 2 years ago... not sure if you realized it was an older thread.

The Applebee's fiasco, just demonstrates what a bad idea tax incentives to lure companies across the state line are, not that Kansas is so much more desirable than Missouri. When you offer tax incentives to a corporation, an entity that is LEGALLY MANDATED to care first and foremost about its own financial well being, this is what you get.

Why doesn't Missouri eliminate taxes on businesses? I read a few years ago that Missouri was considering having no state income tax, and that definitely would have made a difference to businesses and individuals in deciding where to live. I own a small business. Usually my Kansas tax bill ends up being more than my federal tax bill. Although I love Johnson County, the last couple of years we have thought about buying a place with a little bit of land, and considered the Missouri side if we could find something affordable in an area we liked. Would prefer southern Johnson County, but too expensive for what we would want. With the new tax laws, it wouldn't make sense to move to Missouri. I'll keep myself and my business in Kansas.
KCMO is just on another of his ludicrous rants about Kansas. He loves stirring the pot.

When your public school graduation rate is 2/3.....almost anywhere else is more desirable.

Only 17%....why so low? No wonder Kansas unemployment rate is only 20% lower than the national average. If they would double their contribution to 34%, unemployment would drop another 30%.

The opposite has occurred if you look at the BLS data. Job growth in Kansas over the last year is right near the bottom with a 0.1% increase in jobs.
