I was considering an overnight trip this weekend just to get away from home, but don't want to go/drive too far. Looking for suggestions on things to do or see locally in Kansas and for a decent motel with a pool and hot tub. Things that involve something for kids to do would be great as well. Any things to do, see and a great motel/hotel near your location? Would appreciate recommendations.

I've always been a fan of Salina. Rolling Hills Zoo is pretty neat and there are some great museums in town. Good family fun, too and lots of good hotels to stay in. Even living in Colorado, I like visiting Salina. Friendly and more to do than most people realize.

Where are you starting from? Hutchinson has a zoo, the Cosmosphere, the Underground Salt Mines, and the Ramada Inn has a space themed indoor pool.

Thanks for the good suggestions. I may delay to a different weekend because snow is now in the forecast for the weekend. Not sure how much. The zoo might be fun. I didn't know Hutch had a zoo. Have been to the Rolling Hills Refuge, but not recently. I was in Hutch years ago when a tornado struck the Willow Brook area. Had to take cover twice that night. I am close to the Lawrence/ Kansas City area.

This is exactly what we were wanting to do, as well! Hoping to see more suggestions!

How about Great Wolf Lodge at the Legends? Indoor water park for the kids at Great Wolf. T-Rex restaurant at the Legends. Lots of shops to explore and even walking through Nebraska Furniture Mart or Cabela's is an adventure. Rooms can be expensive there but if it's a weekend that there's no Nascar, no Sporting KC, etc., I think the rates are a lot lower.

I was thinking the same a few days ago. I checked out the Great Wolf Lodge website. Looks like the rooms for this weekend are $359 a night (without tax). Not sure if there are any other hotels in the area that might be more reasonable.

I saw the family suite for $279 for this weekend just now. Oh, well maybe it depends on the kids. I didn't know how many kids you had so I put in 2 adults and 2 kids. Maybe that's the difference.

Edited to add - try visitkc.com. They always have "family fun" deals on there. You might see some things you'd never thought of doing/seeing.

Just checked again. It says "base 4, max 6." The $359 applies to up to 4 people and you can add 2 more for $30 each additional. They have one room that is $479. There are other rooms listed as unavailable. I'll look for the family fun deals that you mentioned.

Are you sure you are clicking on the Kansas City location? Let me go look again and see if I can link to what I found.

Okay. I was looking at Friday night. For Friday night they have a room that is $279.99. Not available Saturday night at that price.

I found a promo codes http://www.greatwolf.com/kansascity/...314.1393464133 but you have to stay more than one night.
