This is one of a series of books on Kansas forts. There are also books on Fort Dodge, Fort Harker, Fort Riley, Fort Scott, and Fort Riley. These books are available from the Kansas Historical Society:
Books - store.kshs.org

In addition to the history of Fort Hays, the book talks briefly about the present. The Kansas State University Agricultural Research Center is the largest dryland experiment station in the world. Fort Hays State University is the only state university in the western half of Kansas. Unmentioned is that Hays also has the largest indoor shopping mall in western Kansas.

The book is small at fewer than 100 pages. There are a number of black & white pictures. I enjoyed reading it.
