She definitely has identifiable southern speech markers. However, I don't know if she is what I would consider a good representation of southeast Kansas speech. I know a lot of people from Joplin, MO (in-laws) and Galena, KS who don't sounds like that. I'm not sure that woman is a native Kansan, though she may well be.

Here are several clips of natives (multi-generational) from the "Little Balkans" area of Kansas that are more accurately representations of what most people in that region sound like:

I was in Baxter Springs once and it didn't seem southern to me at all. Just a sn all town. It had nice people.

It's actually even more conservative than the deep South. Perhaps even the most conservative state in the nation. Or maybe second most conservative. I seem to remember that Wyoming is actually the most conservative state.

And people are leaving in droves, ranked in the top 10 currently in out-migration. A new story regarding the governor Brownback implosion is revealed every other day. Eventually people there will come to their senses, but I doubt it.

That would suck, I don't mind socially conservative people in general but I am not big on the Bible Belt/Southern Baptist judgmental you must love Jesus or go to hell people, they **** me off, like anybody knows what happens when you die for sure unless your dead. Any state that has the Westboro Baptist Church as a famous (more like notorious) landmark has to be a little, um... easy to want to leave.

Westboro is a cult not a religious church, every Baptist Church in America says they are not a real Baptist Church.

No it's not. It's well to the right of the average, but its not even in the top 10. Most of the deep South is more conservative than Kansas.

The western 1/3 of the state is solidly western, having very little in common with the majority of the Midwest. The rest of the state is similar to the lower Midwest with some southern influences. Kansas lacks the northern influences found in many other areas of the Midwest, areas along and north of the I-80 boundary in particular.
