Moving to Fort Riley, Kansas and looking for some information in regards to where should we reside? Here are some major factors: (1.) I want to find a high school that has a great record with acedemics and track and field program. (2.) Looking for a home that is new and not fairly old (3) I want to be able to get to Fort Riley within 20-30 mins.

Besides Kansas State University, what are the pro's of living in Manhattan vs Junction City? If you have any feed back, it would help..

The Kansas City forum, specifically, may not be the best source of info on this. Might try the general Kansas forum.

Junction City has a history of more crime. You will find that Manhattan has what you are looking for. The east side of Ft. Riley is at Ogden, which is not very far to the west of Manhattan. Manhattan has better school options and more to do in general. You could live on the west side of Manhattan and be to Ft. Riley in 20 minutes or less. Depends on where you go on the base. If it is on the east side, that will shorten your drive. On base, the speed is reduced and they watch it fairly close. Manhattan has one high school.

Manhattan is a typical college town and is conservative. High school link for Manhattan: Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 : Manhattan High School and the athletic dept: Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 : MHS Athletics

Junction City is a typical military town and also conservative: High school link: //www.city-data.com/city/Junction-City-Kansas.html

Junction City is not gross! My husband is from Junction City, born and grew up there. I have lived in both Manhattan and Junction City. We moved from Manhattan to Junction City at one time mostly because of the drive into Fort Riley since I didn't care to drive on icy roads, college town or the snobby people.

Manhattan is bigger and much more congested than JC. I could not believe how built up it was the last time we were there.

I would buy a home in either town since the economy there is very dependent on Fort Riley and every time they cut forces, it is hard to get rid of any real estate you own. At the present time, prices are high and I think a lot of that is in anticipation of the NBAF site being built there, yet another reason I would not be moving into Manhattan.

All the reviews are the same that I am hearing here at Ft. Bliss however I am looking forward to Manhattan. Do anyone know about their track program?
