I don't know much about pensions, especially government pensions. I was reading an article earlier today and it linked to my link on the bottom of the OP. It says Kansas legislators get a whopping $78,000 in pensions or other benefits. I tried doing some research, but I can't find much. So, I decided to ask the question here. How do Kansas legislators pensions work? Do they only have to serve one term to get the full pension amount? Do they only receive the pension while they are elected, I would assume not, but it boggles my mind if there are that many people out there receiving some type of pension because they were elected to the state government. I was hoping someone could break that down and explain how the pension system works for the legislature.

So elected representatives receive the full pension or is it only a certain percentage increase each term or year? Excuse my ignorance on pensions, but do they start receiving pensions immediately after 2 years, or at retirement age?

Thanks

This document is from 2009. It says after ten years of service, at age 62.
A campaign worker told me that an elected official who was not eligible for a pension from 30+ years on their previous job would get something if they got elected and served at least two terms.
