I thought the song was going to be In A Gadda Da Vida by Iron Butterfly on an endless loop while driving anywhere west of Kansas City.

In A Gadda Da Vida on an endless loop would be a decent choice, yes, for driving west of Kansas City, MO, through the state of Kansas. Thinking about it some more, though, I'd want to throw in some Foghat 'Live' and Tragically Hip 'Yer Favourites', just for starters. There's time for a lot of music driving through the state of Kansas.

visited the Defenders Museum in Coffeyville last mobnth

Eagles..."Doolin Dalton"

...They were duelin', Doolin-Dalton
High or low, it was the same
Easy money and faithless women
Red-eye whiskey for the pain
Go down, Bill Dalton, it must be God's will,
Two brothers lyin' dead in Coffeyville
Two voices call to you from where they stood
Lay down your law books now
They're no damn good...

Good tune, Ghengis. That whole Desperado album is good.

The state song of Kansas of course.. since 1947.

Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day...

For me it had to be the theme song for an old TV favorite, "Rawhide."

I can’t believe no one has mentioned this one:

“Dust in the Wind.”

You know, for the state’s southwest corner’s history with the Dust Bowl. And, bonus, it’s sung by a group called . . . Kansas!

We were farmers in the NE corner of the state when I was small. I'm not sure exactly what year it was, as I was pretty young then, but we had winds that buried fences with loose soil. It had to be around 1950 when I was 5. I don't remember the winds, only all the loose soil in the fence rows after the winds. It was like a gift to me, all that nice soil to play in.

I would quite regularly drive from Chanute to Augusta (just this side of Wichita) back in the mid 1970's. Two cassettes that I would alternately play that would just about last the distance were Gord's Gold by Gordon Lightfoot and Hot August Night by Neil Diamond. I loved them both and I would flip a coin to see which album it would be this trip. I used to cheat, however.

A perfect album to listen to while driving through Kansas was Jason Isbell's 'Something More Than Free,' and the tune off of that album that fit Kansas the best was called 'Children of Children.' Perfect for the oakie look of the land and the endless slightly rolling hills of Kansas.
