Which do you feel has better night life, and restaurant options Lawrence, or Manhattan KS?

They are both college towns. Manhattan though is close to Fort Riley. Lawrence is closer to KC Metro.

Where do you go? What is the main drag the students go to on the weekends. I skipped over Lawrence on my trip to KC.

Massachusetts Street.

There are also two bars next to campus on Ohio Street, the Jayhawk Cafe (“The Hawk”) and the Wagon Wheel (“The Wheel”) that have been there forever.

When I was a student there 45-plus years ago I was partial to a bar called The Stables, but it’s long gone, replaced by apartments.

Like many of this Flag vs. Ag town comparisons...

Lawrence is bigger and more upscale and sophisticated. Manhattan is more rural is rowdier and caters to a younger crowd.

All in all though they both are pretty good. Unlike many sophisticated Flag towns, Lawrence does have some cool dive bars and unlike a lot of Ag towns... Manhattan has some decent places to eat and isn't all peanut shells on the floor type places.

Both are really nice clean towns and have stunning campuses as well.

Lawrence has some good places downtown on Mass, but they increased the parking cost and took out many of the regular meters. They have a new parking system where you have to purchase parking at a kiosk with a credit card, enter your tag number and go back to your car to place the parking permit in the vehicle. Kind of a pain and we had to wait in line at the kiosk. Rather than dealing with that, we did not eat downtown last time we were there. Manhattan has some good places downtown on Poyntz.
