I live in Lawrence, Kansas and am interested in getting a horticulture degree. It seems, based on my USCS (United States College Search), the only college in Kansas that offers this degree is K-State. I'd be interested in any opionions of this program. I'd also be interested in opionions of other colleges offering the same degree. I'd like to hear what people are doing with this degree, where they live, what they make, etc. I'm mostly interested in working with decorative/flowering plants and trees. Any advice you can give on gardening in KS would also be helpful ... particularly on perrennial plants that flower at different times of the year. In my yard I currently have: yuccas, daylillies, tulips, hostas, crocuses, surprise lillies (AKA naked ladies), party girls, and lariotrope. I've recently just added a couple different colors of daisies, some woodworm, and some decorative shorter grasses. If you live in the Lawrence area and are interested in plant trades, please let me know

Mississippi State Current Students - MSU Plant and Soil Sciences

University of Ga Undergraduate | Academic Programs| Horticulture | Department at CAES | UGA

These are often considered among to tip-top-

Cornell Department of Horticulture Home Page

Ohio State HCS

I personally have known or knew people, within the industry, who went to these schools. And they have done very well for themselves

If you plan to stay in Kansas, you might stay here for schooling. At any rate, would it make sense to say it is very beneficial to choose a school in a climate that is similiar to where you would like to live and work?? One of the guys from Cornell had some catching up to do , when it came to Southern plant materials, when he took a job in Atlanta

Horticulture is great, be aware that most university programs are geared to commerical production
not gardening. A couple of the NY State 2 year Techs do have good floral programs though.

You have the best Hort program in the country right there at K-State. Many of the Hort majors go into Extension work if they want to do Gardening.
