is it that, if you see a Walgreen's, there will also be a CVS within a block, if not closer?

To whom does this make sense?

Now that you mention it....

(Looks across the street)

Walgreens on one end... CVS around the corner... No way! Lol well thanks for bringing that to my attention.... That is something I'll have to ask an associate there lol... But really I don't have a clue.... It may seem foolish but there has to be a reason... My guess is just simple business competition.

I'm pretty sure its their business model. I think its the same reason other fast food restaurants flock to where McDonalds sets up shop. Its usually because both think its a good location to attract the most business.

I took the initial steps to purchase a Taco Bell franchise several years ago. When the corporate folks came to visit and seek good sites for business, the first thing they looked for was land near the McDonalds. I assume their thinking was that if someone headed for McDonalds for lunch, they just might see the Taco Bell and decide on it.

In the late 70s Kmart first moved into our town. It never did attract the amount of business they expected, so 10 or 15 years later, when the original building lease was about to expire, they built a new Super Kmart -- across town, adjacent to the new Walmart. (Unfortunately for them, it didn't help their business much.)

Look at the land around a shopping mall. Within a few years after a new mall opens you'll normally find all kind kinds of retail businesses nearby competing with the mall stores. It's the way its been for years with all kinds of retailers.

Competition. Good for the consumer. I live near a town that has one grovery store, one gas station, one florist... The prices are higher.

In Wichita, Wal-Green's goal was to run Osco out of town. (And, they did, too.) So, any of those old Osco locations Wal-Green's moved in on were there before there were any CVS stores here. Wal-green's came here before CVS did. Maybe it was the CVS plan to go where Wal-Green's went?

This was the trend in Fort Worth too. It's like they are in a battle for dominance of intersection corners.

In Wichita it's not CVS, but Dillons that Walgreens set up shop across from. Which is funny, because Walgreens caters to a different market segment than Dillons (or Kroger, depending on where you are) does.
