Well, Lawrence and Topeka are two entirely different places. Topeka is the state capitol while Lawrence is the home of KU. Snowfall is generally less than 20 inches, but expect lots of wind during the winter. For events and social activities check ljworld.com and stick closer to Downtown where you will find more to do as well as KU events.

If you could turn back the odometer 25 years, you'd have a great time in Lawrence. Most of the social scene there is going to consist of people who would be young enough to be your kids.

Wind, wind, and more wind... If it's not the cold that kills ya, it's the wind factor that will do the trick... Lawrence is pretty social on Mass. street but fillled with college kids... I'm sure alot of them would enjoy 'kickin' it' with anyone really at least that's my experience.

Best of luck in your move!

It never gets to cold here, snow never amounts to anything, never enough to have any fun anyway, not sure what all these people are talking about with the wind... yeah, the wind blows at times but no more than anywhere else.. and you will find out that if you don't like the weather one minute... just Wait another five and it will change...

I have lived in KS all my life, Topeka for the last 12 yrs. I personally loathe Lawrence but thats just cuz I can't stand spoiled collage kids and wanna-be-hippy's, if they weren't there it would be a great town to visit.. but I don't care much for Topeka either but everyone has there own opinion thats why I am moving far far away very soon...

Good luck!

Where are you planning on moving? I moved out of the KC area as soon as I graduated high school many years ago. I knew the area wasn't a good fit for me in terms of the lifestyle I was looking for.

Alaska is awesome. It would be too isolated for me, though

It's all relative. Coming from Chicago, I think Kansas winters are tropical in comparison. But that wind....OY! The Windy City has nothing on Kansas wind!
