I am an officer in the Army in my mid 20's (27). I am moving to Fort Riley very soon, and I am looking for some advice about housing.

Do most people in my situation live in Manhattan, on-base, or elsewhere?

What is housing like in Manhattan for people my age?

Thanks!

I was enlisted at Fort Riley - many single officers lived in Manhattan, which isn't much more than 20 minutes' drive, and has a different feel than Junction City or Ogden b/c K-State in in Manhattan. That part of Kansas is much more affordable than the East Coast places I've lived, too.

Thanks for the info. I noticed a few places (Georgetown and Westchester) that seemed pretty good. Any thoughts on those or others?

Westchester and Georgetown and classy and won't have much a crazy student population living there, should be mostly professional people. Pebblebrook seems nice and is probably 12min from post. Highland Ridge apartments are new and a roughly 10min drive from base. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Have you receieved a relocation packet for Manhattan?

KSU,

I haven't received any packets yet, but I assume I will soon. Thanks for those names -- they are helpful. I don't feel like living with only professionals now, so maybe the others would be a bit more entertaining for a year.

When you have crazy parties in your apartment building and pulsating music keeping you up all hours of the day and night, don't say I didn't try to warn you...
For a relocation packet, you can call the Manhattan Chamber at 785-776-8829.

It has apartment listings near bases all over the country. Hope this helps!
