My first time in Hawaii and it was wonderful! The only down side is the long travel time involved to get there from here (Wyoming). But nothing good comes easily, right?

We stayed on Kauai and were enchanted with the greeness, mild temps and friendly people. We stayed and the Kauai Sands which is a vintage hotel from the 60's or so. Just our kind of place! Laid back, quiet, no bells and whistles like in a resort place. After various members of our family from Wyo, Montana and Alaska had all arrieved we went to the YMCA at the end of the highway on the north shore. Camping is what we are comfortable with and most stayed in bunks but a few pitched tents on th spacious lawn. This is a great place if you want to have a home base for hiking, snorkling, surfing and visiting the many sights. The town of Hanilai and the Hanilai Bay were favs.

My 62 yr old husband was the only one who tackled the Na Pali coast trail and came back with a great respect for this "hike". He said it was one of the top 3 hardest things he's done. He only spent one night at the end of the trail and froze his butt off! He packed light but was regretting that he didn't take his sleeping bag and more food. The photos he took are awesome but I'm sure they do not do justice.

Wonderful place, wonderful people, wonderful weather (no rain at all for 12 days) - thanks!

Cheeze? I did make my mom's old Spam dish for breakfast and it was a hit. Fried Spam with pineapple sprinkled with brown sugar. I called it Spamalot. I'm sure it was an old 50's recipe.

The reason traveling is such an ordeal for me is because I have multiple sclerosis and it is VERY hard to get comfortable for so long in those buckets they call seats. I get spasms and generally hurt all over. Even with wheelchair transfers between flights I end up exhausted and usually have to spend my first day after travel in bed before I can even think I will be a semblance of a human being again. But I know that going in and it was well worth the price I had to pay!
