If you go to Google Maps, just type in Ohler Rd Corbin, KY. By the way it is also known as Highway 1629 if that helps you any. It's one of the nicest areas in Corbin. That area has seen the most growth in Corbin.

I just noticed your reply about the meth labs.. <sigh> My husband and I are relocating to Corbin (possibly). We're in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan. Haven't had a problem exactly where we live, but gangs and drugs are all around up here. We're going to be working with Clayton Homes to buy a manufactured home, but on our own property. Any ideas which areas would be BAD for us to put our home on? It's really scary making this kind of move and not knowing.

Thanks for any info you might have.

Honestly, there are bad areas scattered here and there. When I say bad, I don't mean like "Detroit, inner city type of bad." Unless you're caught up in the drug scene, the chances of being murdered or assaulted is about zero. My advice would be to locate a public school and try to find land within a few miles from the school. The reason? Number one, there is a state law prohibiting sex offenders from living near schools. Second, most schools have nice subdivisions/housing located around them. We live near the newest elementary school built, Wyan-Pine Grove, and our home value went up.

Some of the schools that I've noticed with decent neighborhoods around: Wyan-Pine, Cold Hill, Sublimity, Johnson and the new Corbin Primary school. I'm sure the other guys (InLondon etc) can add to this list.

Is it too unreasonable to V-I-S-I-T the area prior to buying property and/or a house with property? Every other method of gathering information is bound to have more errors than researching while you are at the property(ies) that interest you. For most people, this is the largest purchase in their lifetime.

As for 'land for sale', Clayton homes will of course tell you there is land for sale in the Corbin area (true statement) but they likely have a financial interest in the land as they do in wanting to sell you one of their trailers.

YES, my husband and I will be visiting Corbin, but can't until Spring. We were in a horrible car accident, which led to us both having surgery. We have been recuperating and cannot get out of state right now. THIS is why I've been asking for all the help I can get online. I needed some ideas. Thank you to everyone that has helped. I've really appreciated it.

Default New question about Corbin/London

Do you guys know if I can find a map online that shows all the businesses in the area, like.. shopping, restaurants, doctors offices, hospitals, etc.?

I wrote to the Chamber of Commerce, but no reply.

We're getting to the time that we're going to be making the drive down to KY from Michigan and thought it would help us decide which area was best, closer, to things we need.

In our area up here, our phone books have a little colorful map that shows exactly where everything is. Can't find anything like that online. Any ideas?

Default Still searching

We're still searching for a new or almost new manufactured home, already on land. A garage would be nice too :-)

Either in Corbin or London. We're relocating (retiring)

Anybody know of any for sale? We're making the trip down to KY from Michigan in about 3 or 4 weeks. Would like to know of any homes we can look at when we get there.

Thank you,
Cat

Default What about appliances?

In Michigan we have a lot of reasonably priced appliance stores. Besides, Lowe's, do you guys have these types of stores? Or... is Penney's or Sears the only place?

I saw a Best Buy on the KY map, but I think it's pretty far from Corbin?

Have a nice day! UGH... we're supposed to get at least 10" of snow here tomorrow. Can't WAIT to get to KY!!!
