What is it like living in Manchester or Clay county? What is the culture like? how is the school system? What do people do for fun? is it safe? How does it compare to nearby Owsley county?

Economy wise, it's not very good in Clay County. A lot of people that live there work in London. For the most part it's very safe. Remember, it's rural so there isn't a lot to do. Shopping & dining are limited.

Is it an area where everyone knows everyone or do people mostly keep to themselves? In other words, does it have a small town feel or more of a rural feel?

How is Booneville or other relatively nearby communities?

I use to live in Corbin so I somewhat know about the Clay County area. Its a rural area and not much to do. Seems like people do nothing but do drugs there. They somehow get by with not working and be totally dependent on the government. Housing is cheap in that area..... that should give you an idea why its sooo cheap... Be very careful if you do decide to relocate there.

Personally I would not move to Clay County if I were you.

Drugs are a problem nationwide, worldwide dear.

So once you cross into Clay County, suddenly everyone is doing drugs? Really? It's amazing how things change once you cross that county line huh??

While it's true that drugs are widespread and not limited to just Clay co, there is a significant difference once you cross from Laurel into Clay. Other than the Federal prison, there's not a huge job market, there is no interstate access-just a two lane state parkway running between London and Hazard.

It is worse in Clay County without a doubt. Also, it is unfortunately one of the poorest counties in the eastern US.

Also, there is a high amount of allegations of public corruption in Clay County.

As to jobs, a lot of the prison workers live in Laurel County and commute over to Clay County to work at the prison.

As to comparing it to Owsley Coutny, well Clay county is bigger and better road network allowing you to leave quicker.
