Proposed Kentucky license plate stirring controversy and mixed opinions | WHAS11.com Louisville

Quote:
(WHAS11) A proposed license plate design is stirring controversy in Kentucky; the plate has a picture of the confederate flag. Supporters say it’s a way to honor veterans, while others say it’s offensive.
I'm personally against this plate.

Well, no one will be forced to use this flag plate, since there are lots and lots of others in KY to choose from!!

I don't like the idea, but if you want to run the risk of your car being messed with in public places, angry and insane drivers who get fired up because of a plate, go for it.

Kentucky wasn't a Confederate State? Why not a Pacific Island tag, it isn't that either

That's... odd. Considering Kentucky was not Confederate. Torn perhaps, but Union in the end.

I'd rather see a license plate with a furry beaver.

Whether Kentucky was not Confederate is arguable, during the Civil War loyalties shifted and the state was split, there was a Kentuckian Pro-Confederate government operating in Bowling Green in 1862.

I consider it "Confederate" because there were elements that tried to secede, there was a pro-Confederate government there, but it just never got off the ground.

I am aware. But like I said, it was Union in the end. And native Kentuckians were about equally torn between both sides. We might have had two Kentuckies! XD

Kentucky was a border area where families were split up due to choosing opposite sides.

The people of Kentucky spoke in the Elections of 1861 and voted overwhelmingly for pro Union candidates. To me that makes us a Union state.
