I am planning an exploratory relocation visit this fall for approximately one week. I am wondering when is the best time weather-wise to visit? Mid Oct? Suggestions welcomed.
You hit it! Kentucky's driest month is typically always October. Mid-month is normally a very colorful time for trees. The Kentucky Dept. of Tourism runs a website describing color changes at that time.
Which part of Kentucky? The Commonwealth is a very long state east to west with different climate zones in part due to the Mississippi valley transforming to the hills and mountains of the East.
I was trying to recall my memories of growing up in Illinois as to when in the fall to hit KY. I am focusing on the Louisville area but am open to other places as well. I am considering a move to N KY/S IN in approximately a year. I visited about 3 years ago and the KY really stuck in my mind. I took a job out in the Pac NW (WA) but the endless days of gray and drizzle are really getting to me. We've had a particularly cool and gray summer as well, but the winters are bad. Snow and ice to me are small prices to pay to have sunny days even in the winter instead of not seeing the sun for months. I need to regain my sanity, you know!! I might hit Lexington if time allows but L-Ville is the priority.
Mid-Oct is usually, IMO, the best. I recall the beginning of Oct. as still having a few days that are a tad warm but it typically changes quickly through the month to a very comfy temp with sunny days. And yes, it usually is a dry month.
